WhatsApp recently rolled out a new end-to-end encryption footer for beta users on Android via an update with WhatsApp Beta version 2.22.17.6. The new footer is displayed on the chats list, calls, status updates, and device list. Now, the messaging giant has started rolling out a new update for its Android beta testers, reports the WhatsApp watchdog WABetaInfo. The update brings the version of the WhatsApp Beta for Android to v2.22.17.8. According to the report, the new update “is releasing rich link previews for text status updates.” However, the update is currently rolling out to only “some lucky beta testers.”

The new redesigned user interface when sharing a link as a text update may soon roll out to the stable build of WhatsApp. The beta users on Android with WhatsApp beta version 2.22.17.8 have already received the feature – and it’s working!

Currently, the link preview in text status update shows a small banner of featured image along with the title of the article it links to. But, WhatsApp is now redesigning it, and the link preview shows as a large image at the top with the article title underneath the image. As per the report, some beta users can now post rich links to status updates. Check out the screenshot attached below.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, you can now send text status updates with rich link previews. If you’re a beta tester and have already updated the app, you can easily check if the feature has rolled out for you. To check if it’s working, just paste a link to your status update and check if the rich link preview is generated.

But as said before, the feature is currently rolling out only to some beta testers, so if you don’t see it working for you, that’s perfectly fine. WhatsApp may release it to more beta testers, including you, in a future update.
