Samsung August 2022 Update Starts Rolling Out for Select Galaxy Devices

Samsung has started rolling out an update with the August 2022 security patch for some of its Galaxy devices. The new update includes several important security fixes, especially some general Android tweaks. But some fixes are specific to the Galaxy devices. The South Korean giant has detailed all the fixes and tweaks in its regular Security Update Bulletin, but here we have mentioned some major issues that the new update has resolved.

Samsung August 2022 Update: What’s New!

The new security update from Samsung brings the August 2022 security patch for its supported Galaxy devices. The update includes many fixes including patching a Knox VPN vulnerability, fixing the leaking of MAC addresses when connected to Bluetooth or NFC devices, and more. In this update, the Korean firm has also resolved an issue where apps could manipulate mobile data when connected to Wi-Fi. In total, the Samsung August 2022 Update fixes some 31 vulnerabilities with required patches.

According to some Galaxy owners, the patch notes from the actual OTA file show that several Galaxy apps like Samsung Health, Samsung Members, and Smart Switch have also been updated for selected devices. Here’s which Samsung Galaxy devices will receive the August 2022 security patch.

Several top-end Galaxy-branded devices are receiving the August 2022 security update from Samsung. These include the Galaxy S series, Galaxy Note series, Galaxy Fold series, Galaxy Flip series, and Galaxy A series. Here’s what the update brings to each device:

Galaxy S series

The Galaxy S series, as expected, is at the very forefront of the update schedule. The S-series devices are among the first Android smartphones to receive the latest security patch. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is the first device to see the August 2022 security update in some regions from July 28. The OTA update weighs around 420MB and brings several fixes and tweaks to the PenUP application. Similarly, the Galaxy S21 and S20 series devices have also started receiving the August 2022 update.

Galaxy Note Series

The Samsung Galaxy Note series is also receiving the latest security patch with some carrier-locked versions of Note 20. The Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra have been reported to already receive the update in some carrier-locked versions. Samsung may soon start pushing the update to other Note series devices as well.

Galaxy Fold and Flip Series

The Galaxy Fold series has grown tremendously over the past few years, and Samsung does everything to provide support to these foldable devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the first foldable to receive the August 2022 security update.

Similarly, some owners of the original Galaxy Flip 5G have started receiving the August 2022 security patch.

Galaxy A Series

Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy A series devices are also being updated to the latest August 2022 update. The Galaxy A73 is among the first A series devices to get the latest August patch in selected regions.

How to Update Your Device to August 2022 Update

If you own one of the devices stated above then your device will soon get the OTA update, if you haven’t any. You can check the update manually by going to the Settings app and then tapping “Software update.” If it’s available, tap “Download and install.”
